ABOUT

The Spring School of Artificial Intelligence is a unique annual event organised by the Department of Theoretical Computer Science and Mathematical Logic at Charles University. Set in the beautiful and relaxed atmosphere of the Krkonoše Mountains, the event combines academic exploration with the exploration of the natural beauties around.

We want to...

Our mission is to connect young scientists from various areas of Artificial Intelligence and encourage their collaboration. We aim to inspire master’s students by showcasing opportunities for thesis work and motivating them to consider future doctoral studies.

At the same time, we try to help participants improve their presentation skills in a supportive and constructive environment.

Finally, we want to create a space for building new relationships and strengthening ties within the wider scientific community.

Program

The program is designed to bring together students from various areas of AI.

The main part is workshop, where each student presents their research or selected research paper. Thanks to those presentations, students can furthermore discuss their work, exchange ideas and gain new insights.

In addition, the guest speakers (both from academia and industry) are invited to present new trends in various fields of Artificial Intelligence. Among others, we are looking forward to the talk of Prof. Stefan Edelkamp.

But it’s not all about sitting inside. Another part of the program takes place outdoors. All participants can enjoy hiking trips through the stunning Krkonoše landscape, relax in the sauna, and take part in other outdoor activities.

Who can attend

This event is open to all students and researchers, not just those from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. We warmly welcome participants from all academic institutions in Prague and beyond. Whether you're deep into your AI research or just beginning your journey, come join us for a week of learning, sharing, and relaxing in the mountains!

Note that it is important to us to maintain the quality of this event. Since our budget and the capacity of the cottage are limited, students will be selected based on their theoretical background and readiness to understand recent research papers.

HOW TO ATTEND

Are you excited to be part of the Spring School of AI? We'd love to hear from you!

Just send us a brief email to springai (at) ktiml.mff.cuni.cz and tell us a bit about your background, research interests, and how you found out about the event. Also, let us know about the topic of your thesis or research paper, which you would like to present at the workshops.

Looking for a paper to present? Check our recommendations! If you have multiple papers or you are just not sure what to present, please send us your suggestions, and we can help you select a suitable topic and help with the structure of the presentation.

Feel free to drop us a message if you have any questions or need more details. And remember - your passion and curiosity are what matter the most!

Presentations

Good sources of research papers:
  1. Proceedings of International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI)
  2. Synthesis Lectures on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  3. Proceedings of AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence
  4. Proceedings of International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems
  5. Publications by Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI)
Hint: Some of the papers are behind a paywall. To access them, use Log in via an institution, select Charles University and log in via CAS.

Alternatively, ask your supervisor or a teacher of your favorite course to provide you a research paper for your presentation.
If you want to give a talk on a paper not discussed with any member of our department, please consult the paper with the organizers.
It will be possible to use a projector and a whiteboard/flipchart. For presentations (slides), you can connect your own notebook or send us your presentation by an email or bring it on USB device. If you have any special requirements, please let us know.

There will be about three talks per day. Every talk has reserved time slot for 60 minutes. If you want even more time than those 60 minutes, let us know and you may get two time slots.
If you have any demands on date you want to give the talk, please write us. It will help us to pre-schedule the talks.
The talk should be in English. If you have significant problems with English language, you should consult them with the organizers.

What to bring

Besides a good mood and enthusiasm, it is strongly recommended to bring the following stuff:
  • your own home shoes (slippers), toothbrush with toothpaste, pyjamas and a towel
  • your hiking boots and suitable hiking clothes according to the weather (we may walk on snow, so check the weather forecast)
  • smaller backpack, water bottle, box for snacks or trekking poles for hikes
  • guitar or any other musical instruments and favourite social games for evenings are strongly welcomed!
  • feel free to even bring your bike or skis (depending on the weather), but let us know in advance, so that a request for a trailer to a mini-bus can be sent to transport your stuff comfortably
